BiomechanicalBeen doing quite a lot of sports therapy work on shoulders recently… Its comes hand in hand when working with clients that do a lot of resistance training or take part in sports which involve a lot of upper body work (Such as boxing).

The most common of the issues I see involve the Rotator Cuff muscles (4 muscles in the shoulder that form a cuff of tissue around the Humerus bone in the shoulder joint) and more often than not its the Supraspinatus muscle that’s the problem.

When you study the anatomy of the shoulder and its inner workings, its pretty clear to see how easily a problem can occur if these inner working are not functioning exactly how they should.

Obviously injuries can not always be prevented as accidents (Especially within sport) can happen, however when it comes to taking care of these important Rotator Cuff muscles their is a lot we can do and often its as simple as keeping good posture, giving these muscles a bit of specific training (Specifically the external rotators) and adapting some of the work we do which may put excess stress on them.
